  • Ebonized finish -- the classic black piano finish of a grand piano, either glossy or satin.

  • English action -- A typical modern action on a grand piano where the heads of the hammers are oriented away from the keyboard rather than toward it.
  • Escapement mechanism -- The parts of the action that work together to release the hammers as they are being propelled toward the strings. The parts are designed to move out of the way so that after the hammer strikes the string the hammer is free to rebound and be caught by the backcheck.
