  • Una corda pedal -- Popularly called the soft pedal, the una corda pedal shifts the action to the side causing the hammers to hit two strings instead of three. For the bass strings, the shift causes the string to be struck by a softer part of the hammer.
  • Up weight -- The amount of weight a key can lift measured by a piano technician in order to determine how quickly a key will repeat.
